Performed in the unique style of Black Grotesque, this latest interpretation of the classic monodrama revealed the challenge of one woman to confront her past as she struggles to obtain the ever-allusive dream of freedom.

Joanne’s Real World is a comedy cabaret satirising the joys and perils of single mum and proud Centrelink Employee, Joanne Cook and her quest to employ every Australian. With her own job on the line and her family in dire need of a reality check an already uptight Joanne finds herself needing to hold onto anything to maintain some kind of control in her life and keep herself out of the Centrelink queue.
Celia a young pregnant woman, dreams of becoming a celebrity gardener and lives in a small flat she developed into a garden paradise.
Held back by her own self doubt, and abusive boyfriend, Celia must decide between living in her fantasy world or coming back to earth and discovering what she really wants from life.
